How it works
You're watching a stream, something great happens, but you can't finish it now — or you want to send it to a friend. Mark the moment here and VOD Keeper turns it into a timestamped link that still works after the stream ends.
1. Mark a moment while the stream is live
Paste a channel name or Twitch URL and press Mark this moment. We look up the live stream and store the exact second you're at, plus the title, game, tags, language and viewer count — so you can recognise it later even if the link changes.
Faster ways: add channels to Your channels for one-tap marking, connect your Twitch account to see who you follow that's live right now, or use the share sheet from the Twitch mobile app (see Chat & mobile).
2. Or type a command in Twitch chat
Turn on the chat listener under Chat & mobile. It quietly watches the channels you pick, and whenever you type your command (for example !vod) in chat, the moment is saved here automatically. Nothing is posted on your behalf.
3. You get a Twitch link right away
As soon as a moment is saved we try to resolve it. While a stream is live (or just ended) Twitch usually has a past broadcast, and we hand you that link with your timestamp already attached, like ?t=1h26m35s.
4. We hunt for a link that lasts
Many streamers upload the same stream to YouTube. We find their YouTube channel from their Twitch about page or bio (you can also paste their handle yourself on any card), then compare uploads against your moment: livestream start time, duration, title wording and the game played.
When one is a clear match we link it and re-apply your timestamp. When several look close, the card lists them so you can pick the right one — streamers often re-title and trim their VODs.
Every candidate shows a confidence meter (for example 72% · Likely match) with a Why? toggle. Open it and you see exactly which signals counted and by how much: streamed at the same time, how long after the stream it was uploaded, how much of the title overlaps, whether the game is mentioned, and whether the length fits — including the ones that count against a video, like “only 3 min — looks like a clip”.
5. Re-check later to upgrade a link
VODs appear on the streamer's schedule, not yours. Press Re-check on a card a few hours or days after the stream and we'll ask Twitch and YouTube again, then update the links. Your saved moment, note and timestamp never change.
You usually don't have to: every unresolved moment is also re-checked automatically in the background — about every 6 hours for the first week, then once a day for months. Re-check is just the impatient button.
We look at both Twitch highlights and uploads and the channel's YouTube, and the YouTube search reaches 90 days past the stream. So even after Twitch's 14-day past broadcast expires, a VOD uploaded later can still be found and attached.
Statuses at a glance:
- Not found yet — nothing published yet; normal while the stream is still running.
- Temporary VOD — only the past broadcast exists; re-check later.
- Archive expired — the temporary Twitch link is older than 14 days and has likely gone. We keep hunting for a permanent Twitch or YouTube version.
- Permanent link — safe to bookmark and share.
- Needs retry — the last check failed (Twitch or YouTube hiccup). The card says what went wrong and when it was last tried, and you can filter the list down to just these. Nothing ever stays stuck silently.
6. You get told when a link upgrades
When a background check turns a temporary link into a permanent one, a banner appears above Saved moments (“2 moments got a permanent link”) along with a dot on the tab until you press Got it.
Prefer email? Turn on the email switch in your Profile. It's off by default and we never mail you anything else.
7. Finding and sharing your moments
Everything lives under Saved moments. Search by channel, stream title, game or the title you gave the moment yourself, filter by status or channel, and sort by date. Switch to Compact for long lists — click a row (or the top of an open card) to expand or collapse it.
You can add or edit a moment's title at any time with the pencil on the card, so a moment you saved in a hurry can be named properly later.
Sharing is one tap: Copy link on the card puts the best link, timestamp included, on your clipboard.
Good to know
- Sub-only or deleted VODs can't be resolved — nothing we can do about those.
- Some streamers disable past broadcasts entirely; then only a YouTube upload can rescue the moment.
- Highlights and clips are edited, so we only apply a timestamp when it still makes sense.
- Your moments are private to your account.
